I Thank My God

“I thank my God for every remembrance of you.” What a wonderful 10 years of ministry I have experienced at Ardmore Baptist Church as Music and Arts Educator . It is not often that an eighty year old church musician continues to serve the Lord in such a gracious church as Ardmore with an awesome staff and supportive congregation.

“I thank my God. . .” for a choir and musicians who are so dedicated to prepare and lead worship, and have accepted my leadership, as I have sought to train and develop a spirit of excellence, while focusing on the worship of our Almighty God. Ardmore has such gifted, talented and dedicated musicians.

“I thank my God. . .” for the creative giftedness of David Schwoebel, who took the great “conversion” hymn of Charles Wesley, “And Can It Be,” and composed an inspired concertato setting for the Ardmore choir in my honor. His gentle, yet detailed leadership of the singers and instrumentalists brought everyone to a level of excellence, always keeping everyone focused on sharing the message of God’s amazing love.

“I thank my God. . .” for the leadership and friendship of my supervisor, David Fitzgerald. His vision, ability to design incredible worship services, care for individuals, and superior musicianship have been an inspiration for me. He has been a true gift in my life.

“I thank my God. . .” for the retirement gift of an anthem on my favorite hymn, “And Can It Be,” featured on the recent Composer Weekend with David Schwoebel, the composer. The premier presentation was so skillfully done by our Sanctuary Choir, organ, Ardmore Bells, brass and percussion. My heart was overwhelmed. What an expression of love!

“I thank my God. . .” and leave you with this “Corinthian Blessing”

“The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,

and the love of God,

and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit

be with you all.”

To God be the glory, Jim Davidson
