One of the great gifts of the Christian life is taking time to give thanks for those who have faithfully served among us. On Sunday, August 30, we will have the privilege of doing just that as we celebrate David Fitzgerald on his final Sunday serving on our church staff.
Throughout his years of ministry at Ardmore, David has offered his gifts with faithfulness, creativity, and a genuine love for this congregation. Week after week, he has helped lead us in worship, marked life’s most sacred moments alongside us, and invested himself in the ministry of this church. While we know this next chapter is one of joy and anticipation for David, we also want him to leave knowing just how deeply he has been loved and appreciated.
On Sunday, August 30, we will have both the 8:15 and the 10:45 services. When David went on a sabbatical in 2021, he did so partially to dream and pray about how the Early Service could be reimagined. When he returned, he enacted the vision he felt God had placed on his heart to develop a contemplative, quieter experience of worship that has come to mean so much to many of us. Both of our services are so well organized and intentional; much of that is due to the good leadership of David Fitzgerald.
During our worship services that morning, we will have the opportunity to express our gratitude and present David with several gifts from the congregation. Following the 10:45 a.m. service, everyone is invited to a reception in the Fellowship Hall as we continue the celebration together. I hope you will make plans to stay, enjoy some refreshments, and personally thank David for his ministry.
Beginning that morning, we will also have baskets in the Lobby where you may leave cards of encouragement and appreciation for David. A handwritten note sharing a favorite memory, offering a word of blessing, or expressing your gratitude will undoubtedly become a treasured keepsake for him. If you would also like to include a personal gift or gift card as a tangible expression of your thanks, I know it would be received with deep appreciation as David begins this new season of life.
The Apostle Paul wrote, “I thank my God every time I remember you” (Philippians 1:3). On August 30, may we embody those words together as we give thanks for David Fitzgerald and celebrate a ministry that has blessed Ardmore Baptist Church in countless ways.
